How to Choose an MBA Programme

Before you can apply for an MBA programme, you first need to choose the right Business School for you. With so many to choose from, it can be difficult to determine which course will provide you with the quality of teaching you would expect.

In order to choose the right institution for you, it’s important to consider the following:

  • The cost of your chosen course
  • Employment prospects
  • Course content and schedule
  • Entry requirements

An easy way to narrow down your search is by only considering institutions that hold a third-party endorsement from organisations like ours. This will provide you with the knowledge that your chosen Business School has a positive impact on organisations and society as a whole, through the enhancement of knowledge, skills and the values needed to succeed in diverse environments.

Traditional or Online MBA Programme?

Once you’ve chosen the right course for you, it’s time to consider whether an on-campus or online programme would best suit your lifestyle. Depending on your schedule and responsibilities, studying online could be a better option for you. Online courses are also often more affordable and can be completed in a shorter space of time.

In most cases, traditional on-campus programmes appeal more to younger students who crave structure and enjoy the day-to-day routine of attending in-person classes.

Completing an MBA programme will change your life for the better, whatever learning format you choose. Take the time to undertake some research into the two options, creating a pro, con list tailored to your requirements.

How to Apply For an MBA Programme

So, you’ve chosen a course, selected an accredited institution, and have decided whether in-person or online learning is the right option for you. Now, it’s finally time to submit your application.

Do You Meet the Requirements?

In order to apply for an MBA programme, you will need to have first completed an accredited undergraduate degree. Within your application, you will need to provide official transcripts as evidence of your previous studies. Make sure you have read through the demands of your chosen institution before applying to ensure you can meet their requirements.

If you’re applying to a course in a different county, you will likely need to also provide proof of identity and your passport.

Complete a GRE or GMAT

Most MBAs will also require applicants to undertake Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) or a Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). This will test your knowledge of the type of analysis you will complete during your MBA.

Submit a CV

Individuals applying for an MBA programme will need to submit a CV, outlining their professional experience so far. When writing your CV, you should consider your USP – what makes you the ideal candidate? Why should your application be considered over someone else?

Write an Essay

The next step to completing an MBA programme application is to write a professional essay, outlining your motivations for applying.

This should include all of the information you might not have included in your CV, like the languages you speak, family traditions, proudest moments and extracurricular activities.

Letters of Recommendation

In order to increase the credibility of your application, it’s important that you provide a number of professional recommendations that outline your personal achievements.

Prepare for Your Interview

Once you have submitted all of the necessary documents, it’s likely you will be asked to attend an interview. You will need to present a clear understanding of why you have chosen that particular Business School, and should be prepared to talk about your future goals and interests.

At the Association of MBAs, we’re dedicated to ensuring all MBA programme applicants receive a unique learning experience, that equips them with the knowledge needed to become a responsible leader.
