MBA success stories: Shiju Radhakrishnan, SP Jain Institute of Management and Research (India)

Shiju Radhakrishnan has more than 10 years of experience in areas such as technology, managing and consulting. He achieved a Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering and soon after, attained an MBA from the SP Jain Institute of Management & Research. He won numerous awards during his university years, including the Mahatma Gandhi gold medal award.

After working for a number of large corporations, he decided to start iTraveller, a service that aggregates the entire process of researching, planning and booking a holiday package. The popularity of the service means it has only gone from strength to strength.

Explain your current role
I am the CEO and Founder at iTraveller, which is based in Bangalore, India. It has been around for the past 5 years, and roughly four years after I completed my MBA. The service, iTraveller, is essentially a market place for holidays, and our mission is to make it the number one automated system in the travel industry.

When and where did you achieve your MBA?
My MBA was a PGDSM, an MBA in Systems, from SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai. I graduated in 2008.

What is the most interesting thing you learnt from your MBA?
I would have to say that the ability to firstly look at the big picture, then to zoom-in and zoom-out as frequently as possible to make sure nothing is missed, and to know everything that is going on.

How has the MBA made a difference in your life? In particular, your career path and leadership journey?
My MBA has allowed me to get few softer aspects in place when it comes to the way I look at the business holistically, it has improved my data driven decision making process, and has added to the skills that I can use in business. My MBA has also improved my macro aspects of problem solving and has taught me the importance of networking, communication and most importantly, the building blocks of management.

As an entrepreneur, I make use of the foundation laid by my MBA on a daily basis, whether that be day to day operational challenges, or setting the strategic direction for the organisation and the investor interactions.
