The Academy of Marketing Science honours AMBA & BGA chair

The Academy of Marketing Science (AMS) has bestowed the Cutco/Vector Outstanding Marketing Educator Award for 2023 on AMBA & BGA chair Dr Bodo Schlegelmilch

Accepting the award at the AMS annual conference in New Orleans earlier this month, Dr Schlegelmilch thanked the academy, adding: “Looking at the renowned past recipients of this prestigious award makes me truly humble.”

Dr Schlegelmilch is professor and chair of the Institute for International Marketing at WU, the Vienna University of Economics and Business. Initially educated in Germany, he obtained two PhDs from the University of Manchester and an honorary PhD from Thammasat University in Thailand.

Having begun his career at Deutsche Bank and Proctor & Gamble, he continued at the Universities of Edinburgh and California, Berkeley.  A professorship at the University of Wales and Thunderbird School of Global Management followed. 

Dr Schlegelmilch was the founding dean of the WU Executive Academy and initiated the Vienna executive MBA, leading it into the Financial Times top 50 ranking. He has received numerous accolades, including fellowships from the AMS and the Academy of International Business and the American Marketing Association’s Significant Contribution to Global Marketing Award, as well as the Bualuang ASEAN Chair Professorship Award from Thammasat University. 

He serves on the advisory boards of a number of European and Asian universities and holds various guest professorships. He has taught in 31 countries on six continents and his research has appeared in leading publications such as the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Strategic Management Journal and Journal of International Business StudiesDr Schlegelmilch has published 15 books in English, Mandarin and German and served as editor-in-chief of the Journal of International Marketing.
